There are many ways that we can help protect ourselves online. I had started to mix entries about security tips in with ones about malware, but I decided that it might be better to have a separate section about security tips.

Beware of spam and malware related to Japan’s earthquake

There are always people trying to make a buck off of other people’s troubles and disasters. Security experts expect that Japan’s recent earthquake will be no different. They expect a flood of fraudulent emails and malicious web sites trying to get your money or to install malware on your computers. Don’t be fooled by emails claiming to be from a charity trying to help the victims of this disaster. If you want to help, make your donations to charity that you’re familiar with and that you know is trustworthy.

Configure Firefox

Firefox is, in my opinion, one of the best web browsers, and is an excellent replacement for Internet Explorer. For information on how to improve its security, read this article.
